Coombe Farm

Just a five minutes drive from historic Akaroa

A small creek trickles down the valley of Takamatua as native birds sing in the trees. In the spring the fragrance of the blossoming garden fills the air. In the autumn the valley becomes painted with rich colours.
Takamatua means “to rest after a journey” and here at Coombe Farm we invite you to do just that.

They’re talking about us

“My husband and I spent a night at Coombe Farm for my birthday and we absolutely loved it. Kathrine and Hugh are very friendly and welcoming hosts and their beautiful historic farmhouse is surrounded by lovely gardens and a bubbling stream and is located in a breathtaking country setting only five minutes drive from Akaroa. Our room offered gorgeous views of the surroundings, was warmly furnished, had a super comfortable bed and included a spotless and modern ensuite bathroom. Kathrine also provided us with a generous and delicious full english breakfast.”

“We loved staying here – it was a highlight of our trip. We felt right at home and we’re able to rest and relax in Kathrine’s beautiful home. The garden and grounds are just gorgeous! Highly recommend for those looking for a relaxing and idyllic location close to great restaurants in Akaroa.”

Kelly – Airbnb

” The only problem with staying at Coombe Farm is that afterwards nothing else will be as nice.”

AnnL – Tripadvisor

“Kathrine and Hugh offer far more than their beautiful pictures can convey. […] Their hospitality is exceptional in every way and staying at Coombe Farm is a memorable experience.”

Sue – Airbnb

” It’s a great place to stay, as our last stop in for the trip, this is a perfect ending. Katherine provided amazing breakfast for us, her home made jam is definitely my favorite. The location is great, only about 5 mins drive to Akaroa center. Really enjoy the stay there.”

“We stayed in the Shepherds Hut for one night and I can honestly say it’s one of the BEST eco-stay experiences we’ve had in NZ. The balance of rustic yet romantic is spot on. So many thoughtful touches like the soap bars, fresh fruit and produce and robes really add to the experience. The outdoor bath just tops it off! Our only regret is not staying for longer, we will 100% be back to stay!!”
