What to see and do around Coombe Farm Bed and Breakfast Akaroa

Bring your walking boots to walk the many farm tracks or cycle the Summit Road and take in the breathtaking views of Akaroa Harbour—an extinct volcanic crater.

You may kayak or swim with the dolphins, or just enjoy their company from the many handful of boats that cruise the harbour.

See the white-flippered penguin at Pohatu penguin colony or visit the colonies of New Zealand sea lions and fur seals (to learn more, download Environment Canterbury's brochure about marine animals, PDF, 1.4MB).

There's the world famous Giant's House with its beautiful mosaic gardens, and a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafés in the historic French village of Akaroa. You might also consider a visit to the Takamatua Valley Vineyards.

The following topographical maps cover Banks Peninsula: NZTopo 50 series BX24, BX25, BY 24, BY 25. You may find the Department of Conservation's 2010 Banks Peninsula conservation walks brochure (PDF, 540KB) of interest.
